AWAY FROM THE ORDINARY WITH HANS
Meet Hans. With 40 years of experience at Hotel Casa, including 38 years on the floor with the technical service department, he quickly became the ideal candidate when his department needed a new head last year. He and his team of 5 work behind the scenes to ensure that all technical aspects, such as elevator and fire alarm maintenance, function smoothly. Let’s get to know him!
Let’s start with a fun dilemma: Never be on the floor again or never be in the office again?
Hans: “At this moment, I would choose to never be on the floor again. I worked on the floor for 38 years, and I loved it, both here and at the old building – Casa 400. I never expected that I would enjoy a managerial position, but it turns out it’s really my thing. The work is completely different, and although I still try to get on the floor, it’s not always possible. Every day, there’s a tremendous amount of to do’s and requests, but fortunately, I have a fantastic team that helps me handle the daily tasks.”
SOCIAL PIONEERS SINCE 1957
What do you find important in society that CASA has been involved in?
Hans: “At Hotel Casa, everyone is encouraged to participate in volunteer work. Since CASA is a non-profit organisation, we believe it’s important to give back to society. For example, I’ve prepared a three-course meal for the homeless twice. It was a lot of fun and a great way to contribute.”
BRIGHT VIBES
How does CASA feel when you walk into the lobby through the revolving doors?
Hans: “I can only speak positively about the atmosphere I feel in the hotel. I’ve worked here for 40 years now, so you could say this is my first home. I spend more time here than I do at my real home (laughs). When I walk in, I feel at home; I also find it really cosy here.”
What’s your favourite spot in the hotel?
Hans: “It has to be the lobby, along with the bar that connects to it. Someone once criticized the lobby, and that affected me quite a bit, as if someone was commenting on my own living room. By now, the lobby has been completely renovated, so there’s nothing left to complain about. Additionally, my own workspace, my desk, is also one of my favourite places. I share the workspace with the facility team, the chef and his team, and the Meetings & Operations team. This creates an inspiring and friendly environment where we are constantly in touch with each other.”
AWAY FROM THE ORDINARY
How does your job contribute to guests having a unique experience at Hotel Casa?
Hans: “I do my utmost to ensure that guests have no technical complaints during their stay. Technical issues should definitely not be a concern for our guests. That’s why I’ve introduced a preventative approach: when possible, we check all rooms for potential defects so we can address them immediately. No complaints mean no worries. If the guests are satisfied, then I am too.”
Thank you for your time Hans!
Hans: “My pleasure!”
