Why is the VAT on accommodation going to be increased?
The Dutch government has announced that the reduced VAT rate for services such as hotel stays will be discontinued. The aim: simplifying the tax system and strengthening public finances. As a result, hotels, campsites and short-stay accommodations will all move to the standard VAT rate of 21%.
What does this mean for hotel guests?
The VAT increase affects the total price of a hotel stay. From 1 January 2026 onwards, rooms will be taxed at the higher 21% rate. This applies to:
Good to know: hospitality services such as breakfast, restaurants and bars already fall under a different VAT rate and will not change.
How is Hotel Casa handling this change?
Transparency is part of CASA’s DNA — CASA wants all guests to know exactly what to expect. This is what to expect:
1. Bookings made before 1 January 2026
If your stay was booked before 1 January 2026, the old price will remain in place, even if your stay takes place in 2026. CASA will cover the difference caused by the VAT increase.
2. Bookings made from 1 January 2026 onwards
For all reservations made on or after this date, the new 21% VAT rate will automatically apply. CASA will update prices on its website in time, so guests always see the correct rate.
3. Clear communication, no surprises
CASA keeps things simple and transparent:
clear communication about price adjustments
the real price shown at the time of booking
honesty about what changes and what doesn’t
Have you already booked and paid in 2025?
→ The price of your booking doesn’t change, CASA will cover the difference caused by the VAT increase
Booked in 2025 but paying in 2026?
→ The price will remain the same as at the time of booking, CASA will cover the difference in VAT.
New bookings from 1 January 2026
→ The new standard rate of 21% VAT applies
