The 60's

Four ambitious students, a symbolic amount of 100 guilders and a student housing shortage in Amsterdam. That is how the Casa Academica Foundation started in 1959 when the first stone was laid at James Wattstraat 12.

The 70's

A time when friendships were formed, where freedom began and where dreamers, creative souls, partygoers and turtledoves could find their way. Also the start of a Casa community, where student parties took place and often ended in a sleepover.

The 80's

1985 - The establishment of the Casa 'Kroeg'. Parties where organized by and for students in the in-house bar. The freedom to organize whatever they wanted was obvious by then, themes, drinks, decoration, they could decide.

The 90's

The community was growing among the students. Casa friends took initiative and started organizing special themed events such as Halloween. This group was gradually taking shape and the Residents' Committee was formed.

The 00's

A completely new building just around the corner, that was the plan for Casa’s future. One big benefit for the students in the old Casa building; the opportunity to decorate the kitchen to their own taste. This resulted in colorful kitchens with creative paintings. A unique opportunity!

October 2019

Every student season since 2019, the Residents Committee has been receiving a loan from Casa. The members of the committee mainly use this loan to buy the beer and to sell it on the parties. Almost every year the committee makes profit. In 2019 they were able to eat toghether in a restaurant from the profits!
