This fusion of bossa nova, samba, jazz, MPB, psychedelia, and funk continues to influence musicians across genres. The play revolves around Virginia and her partner, exploring the dynamics of their relationship through repeated breakup scenes. DEPOIS DO SILÊNCIO Holland Festival

Christiane Jatahy, along with three actresses, explores the enduring consequences of Brazil’s violent history and contemporary realities. Drawing from Itamar Vieira Junior’s well-known book “Torto Arado” and Eduardo Coutinho’s documentary “Twenty Years Later,” Jatahy combines theatre and film to show the challenges faced by Afro-Brazilian and indigenous communities in Bahia’s countryside. Titled “Depois do silêncio” (‘After the silence’), the production symbolizes the silenced voices and the seeds of change among marginalized communities.

THE ROMEO

DATE: June 25th – 26th – 27th, 2024
PLACE: Internationaal Theater Amsterdam – Grote Zaal

The Romeo Holland Festival

Choreographer Trajal Harrell crafts “The Romeo,” a universal dance inspired by an imagined world, transcending boundaries of background, gender, and generation. Inspired by influences such as contemporary dance, vogue, butoh, and ancient theater, Harrell creates an emotive and sensual style that speaks to diverse audiences. With his ensemble of dancers, he explores a range of moods and eras, backed by a diverse soundtrack spanning from Satie to Pink Floyd. “The Romeo” invites viewers to ponder alternate histories and offers a timeless, inclusive experience for all.

THE FAGGOTS AND THEIR FRIENDS BETWEEN REVOLUTIONS

DATE: June 13th – 14th, 2024
PLACE: Muziekgebouw – Grote Zaal

THE FAGGOTS AND THEIR FRIENDS BETWEEN REVOLUTIONS Holland Festival

Last but not least, step into a vibrant world celebrating friendship and joy, where the queer community is honoured through song, dance, and new myths. “The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions” adapts the cult classic book into a dynamic music theatre production. Composer Philip Venables and director Ted Huffman reimagine the text with a diverse cast, offering a kaleidoscopic journey of music and storytelling. Expect a mix of battles, cheerleading, and raves set to Venables’ eclectic score. This production, which sharply critiques capitalism, assimilation, and patriarchy, resonates deeply with CASA’s ethos, making it our final recommendation.
