KING’S DAY 2023 IN AMSTERDAM
King Willem-Alexander, congratulations! Every year, we celebrate our king’s birthday in the Netherlands. It’s even a national holiday where we get the day off to have a party or to visit the flea market. This day, orange is your go-to colour, so make sure your outfit has a touch of it. Will you be in Amsterdam on King’s Day? Get inspired by Casa’s tips!
Flea market at Vondelpark
We are not afraid to say it: the Vondelpark is surely one of the most famous places in the city to go for a nice walk, exercise or picnic. During King’s Day, Vondelpark is a huge flea market as well as a big stage for children. The park will close on the 26th around 20:00 in the evening and reopen to everyone at 9:00 the next morning. On King’s Day, the 27th, you can enjoy some thrift shopping, snacks and drinks everywhere, and performances by kids.
Cruising on the canals
The festivities also continue on the water. You just have to take your boat to the canals. (Especially) on the Prinsengracht you will find performances everywhere on the water and along the docks. Rent a boat, stuff your cooler full of food and drinks, and get carried away along the canals.
Festivals on King’s Day
King’s Day is somewhere around the beginning of the festival season: reason enough to spend a day dancing. There’s a nice variety of festivals in Amsterdam to choose from. Let’s sum It up:
- Loveland van Oranje, Meerpark Amsterdam East.
- Oranjebloesem, Olympisch Stadion, Amsterdam South.
- Breakfast Club, secret location, Amsterdam West.
- Kingsday Indoor Festival, Het Sieraad, Amsterdam West.
- Cartel Kingsday, Westerunie, Amsterdam West.
- Kingsland Festival, RAI, Amsterdam South.
Perfect when you want to avoid the strolling and the crowds in the city centre.
Free party on the Van Limburg Stirumplein
Every year café Piet de Gruyter hosts a party (with free entrance) on this particular square in Amsterdam West. The Van Limburg Stirumplein is a cozy round square, hidden between the houses, with some bars, vegetarian brasserie, snack bar, and of course café Piet de Gruyter – a well-known name in Amsterdam. During King’s Day, they will fix you a drink, some music, and the great vibes.
King’s Night at GAPP
Is your King’s Day not complete without a successful King’s Night? In Amsterdam, you can go pretty much anywhere in the city for a fun party the day before our king’s birthday. Always a good idea is a funky silent disco. Especially when you do it with a view over Amsterdam Oost. So on 26 April, come to GAPP, our roof terrace on the 8th floor. Sing along with the best guilty pleasure hits, while admiring the panoramic view. Get your tickets for only ten euros (including an orange shot).
Party on the waterside at Meneer Nieges
Talking about views! Meneer Nieges throws its doors wide open for free as well. On King’s Day you are welcome on the terrace right next to the IJ river. Hopefull for some nice sunshine! Free entrance, good music and a great party atmosphere. Café Restaurant Nieges is the place to be!
We hope for an amazing King’s Day in Amsterdam this year. Fancy a drink on the 27th? You can do so at our bar in Restaurant EAST. Here we will serve a €5 specialty cocktail from 17:00 on Little Friday. This edition, you can taste the Prins Pils, with Aperol, lime and our own Gabbe White beer. What else?
