QUEER & PRIDE AMSTERDAM 2023
5 HIDDEN GEMS IN A SEA OF CELEBRATIONS
Pride season is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited! This year, Pride Amsterdam has expanded to become Queer & Pride, with two weeks of events organized by Queer Amsterdam and Stichting Pride Amsterdam. As a place that welcomes guests and students from all walks of life, we at Hotel Casa are thrilled to highlight our favorite events on the agenda. While the Pride Walk and Canal Tour are popular events, there are many other hidden gems to discover during Queer & Pride Amsterdam 2023. In this article, we’ll highlight five lesser-known events and artists that you won’t want to miss.
Queer fest - 22.07
Everyone is familiar with the iconic Pride Walk, but did you know that after the walk, you can continue the celebration at the Queer Fest mini-festival on Museumplein? From dancing at ‘het Danspaleis’ to exploring 30 diverse market stalls, there’s something for everyone from 2pm to 6pm. Support community members directly while enjoying delicious food and beverages, and participate in various sports activities organized by Queer Pride and Sports, including roller skating, skateboarding, breakdancing, basketball, tennis, volleyball, football, rugby, and badminton. Don’t miss the self-defense class! This wheelchair-accessible event even provides accessible toilets.

Queer films
In various venues including Studio K, Rialto, LAB111, De Vlugt, Volkshotel, and Waterkant, Queer Amsterdam presents a curated film program that showcases a diverse array of perspectives on sexuality and gender diversity. The aim is to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and explore the intersectionality between LGBTQIA+/queer, BIPOC, trans, refugees, and migrants. These films tackle important subjects that are often sensationalized in mainstream media, with a focus on bringing back the humanity and providing an opportunity for self-representation on the big screen. By promoting the work of Queer filmmakers, the organisation strives for a more balanced and inclusive portrayal of our community.

The following weekend (July 29th & 30th), enjoy a themed guided tour through the vibrant garden, exploring (gender) diversity in the plant world. On Wednesday evening, August 2nd, head to the Hortus for a queer speed dating session! And if you happen to find a promising match, embark on a scavenger hunt through the entire garden together. Could the Hortus be the beginning of your summer romance?

Join the audience at the Pride Hub (the Social Hub) on August 1st, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, for an engaging and honest panel discussion on love, relationships, intimacy, and sexual autonomy within the trans community. This thought-provoking conversation explores the multifaceted aspects of love, going beyond the impact of hormones and gender-affirming care.
