9x What to do on your Amsterdam east date
Whether you’re familiar with Amsterdam East or not, it is a district full of variety and surprises. Perfect when you’re going on a date and you don’t know what to do. That’s why we have a list of all the fun things to do when you go on a date in Amsterdam East!
Romantic dinner in East
Going out for dinner – sharing a bite and chatting the night away. Having dinner together with your date in a nice restaurant must be one of our favourite dates. And Amsterdam East is full of great restaurants! When you got a bit more to spend, Restaurant de Kas is the place to go – they cook from their own garden. For a bite between plants and flowers you must go to Bar Botanique. Or go Spanish at La Cerveceria. Good food in a minimalistic interior with Scandinavian vibes you’ll find at Restaurant Entrepot near Artis Zoo. Or get surprised with a multiple course menu at Restaurant Wilde Zwijnen. As you can see: it’s already too much to mention.
Get your game hat on
Nothing lights the flame more than playing a game. Okay, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but competing with each other definitely gets the flirtation mill going! Take your sweetheart to Bar Joost near Javaplein and choose a board game. With a beer or a glass of wine it is double the fun.
Jeu de boules at the Amstel River
More games? Of course! Come on, let’s get going with a game of French jeu de boules! Rent a lane at Mooie Boules in the Indische Buurt and order a drink with it. Or take your own set of jeu de boules balls to the Weesperzijde, near Café Hesp. You can keep score on the abacus next to it. Bring your own drinks and bites for the ultimate French game experience.
Picnicking in the park
Amsterdam East has got some beautiful parks and public gardens. As if they were made for a romantic picnic! The best with a well-stocked basket, of course. Get your snacks and wines at Erik’s Delicatessen on Beukenplein and find a nice spot in the Oosterpark. Don’t forget your cutlery! Prefer something smaller? Then head to Frankendael Park, near Hotel Casa. With a bit of luck, you’ll also find a nice market there! For an extra relaxed picnic, head to the Darwinplantsoen. Full of wild flowers, plants, trees and cute little paths.
Explore East by boat
Snuggle on a bench next to the window so you can have a good look on the city from the canals. Rederij Mokum has a great route through Amsterdam East. You get on at Amsterdam Central Station and sail up the eastern canals via the Amstel river, passing Nemo and Artis Zoo. In the meantime, the guide tells you nice facts about the city. Experience Amsterdam together from the canals and enjoy!
Go see a classic movie!
Staying in and watching a movie together is always nice. But a big screen makes it more impressive! In Amsterdam East we have some small movie theatres where they play new movies, but also the good old classics. At cinema Kriterion you will have a blast.
Nice spots for a coffee date
Having a drink is always a good idea. Are you going to a bar or do you choose a cosy coffee house? Amsterdam East is full of it! Get yourself a seat at coffee roaster Rum Baba (close to Oostpoort), Coffee Bru (at the Beukenplein) or at Hartje Oost (shop and coffee spot) at the bubbly Javastraat. A bit further you’ll have Barmhartig Koffie and at our own coffee bar in EAST you will get your special to go on the Ringdijk. Or you sit down in one of our cosy corners.
Take your date to the museum
Whether it’s your first date or the 30th. A museum is a great way to get to know each other (even) better. You share your thoughts about an artwork or object and discover more and more about your date and their view of the world. Go to the Tropenmuseum or the interactive Youseum (walking distance from Hotel Casa). Of course, when you head down to the centre you’ll find more museums like Hermitage or the Jewish Museum.
Rooftop romance
We have a number of wonderful roof terraces in Amsterdam East. Whether covered or open air, having a drink on the roof is just more special. You’re guaranteed a magnificent view of the city. Check out these rooftop bars in Amsterdam East for a winning date – just saying, it’s the hotels where you’ll find them: Zoku, Volkshotel, Emma Hotel, Malabar and of course our own GAPP.
Hopefully you’re full of inspiration after this list about dating in Amsterdam East. This beautiful district has so much to offer for an active date, but also for a culinary one! Can’t you wait to go on this romantic date or do you want to go away for the weekend? Check out our availability in Hotel Casa, Restaurant East or come by rooftop GAPP. See you soon!
